Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in signing former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres, according to French journalist Loic Tanzi.
The Reds are expected to strengthen their attack this summer following Mohamed Salah’s departure and are currently pushing to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola in a deal believed to be worth around £85 million.
If that move fails to materialise, Liverpool could turn their attention to Torres, who recently scored Spain’s winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina.
Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the 26-year-old, with manager Luis Enrique valuing his ability to play across the entire front line. Earlier in the transfer window, Torres may have been available at a relatively modest price, but his impressive World Cup displays and growing interest from several clubs have significantly increased his valuation.
Torres previously spent a season and a half at Manchester City before joining Barcelona, where he has developed into a reliable attacking option. Last season, he featured mainly as a centre-forward but is equally effective on either wing, making him an attractive option for Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola.
His record speaks for itself, with 16 goals in 43 appearances for Manchester City, 65 goals in 207 games for Barcelona, and 25 goals in 65 matches for Spain.
Although Transfermarkt currently values him at around €50 million (£42.5 million), Torres has just one year remaining on his Barcelona contract, which could give Liverpool an opportunity to negotiate a reasonable deal despite his rising price.
His underlying statistics from last season also highlight his attacking quality, ranking among La Liga’s best forwards for expected goals, goals scored, shots on target, and overall attacking threat.
While the reports should be treated cautiously until confirmed by more reliable Liverpool-based sources, Torres appears to be a strong alternative if the Reds are unable to complete a move for Bradley Barcola.
