Former West Indies opener Chris Gayle says the West Indies can win their third T20 World Cup in 2024.
The 44-year-old, who was part of the 2012 and 2016 West Indies teams that won the T20 World Cup title, was in Barbados to celebrate the 100-day milestone to the start of the 2024 tournament.
Gayle said Rovman Powell’s team can push for a third T20 World Cup, saying it would be an elixir for West Indies fans.
“We have a good team, a good all-round team, and I believe we can do it again and make it three World Cup victories for the West Indies. I like what I see in the team. I would like to see them go all the way like we did against Sri Lanka in 2012 in Sri Lanka and 2016 against England in India,” he said.
“We have some brilliant players in the team and I was really impressed with the way they beat England on home soil last year, you could see the chemistry and true self-belief and you could also see togetherness and readiness from a team point of view,” the Universe Boss added.
Gayle said there were positives in the recent T20 series loss to Australia and he backed Nicholas Pooran to star in the tournament
