Tottenham remain in the hunt for Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincão despite reports suggesting his move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli is close to completion.
The North London club were first linked with the 26-year-old last week after an impressive campaign in which he registered 11 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. However, recent reports indicated that Spurs had fallen behind after Al Ahli reached an agreement with Sporting worth around €45 million (£38 million). Fabrizio Romano has also issued his trademark “Here We Go” update on the proposed transfer.
Despite that, the deal is not yet completely sealed. According to Correio da Manhã, relayed by Sport Witness, Trincão has not yet accepted Al Ahli’s offer as he is still hoping for a return to the Premier League.
The Portuguese international is believed to be aware of interest from both Tottenham and Manchester City and is prepared to wait to see if either club submits a late bid before making a final decision on his future.
Spurs reportedly view Trincão as a versatile option capable of playing on the right wing or in an attacking midfield role, while Manchester City’s interest is said to be backed by manager Enzo Maresca, who is a long-time admirer of the former Wolves player.
However, Sporting are unwilling to lower their asking price. Any club hoping to hijack the transfer will need to match Al Ahli’s agreed £38 million offer if they want to bring Trincão to England.
