Tottenham remain fully committed to landing Sandro Tonali in what would be one of the biggest transfers of the summer, with Roberto De Zerbi determined to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The Italian midfielder has emerged as one of Spurs’ top priorities after another outstanding season with Newcastle United. Tottenham previously tested the Magpies’ resolve with an opening offer worth around £80 million, but it was swiftly rejected. Newcastle are believed to value Tonali at well over £100 million and have made it clear they have no intention of selling one of Eddie Howe’s most influential players.
Tonali once again proved his importance last season, making more than 50 appearances in all competitions while cementing his status as the heartbeat of Newcastle’s midfield. The former AC Milan star impressed with his composure in possession, exceptional passing range, defensive discipline and ability to control the tempo of games.
While negotiations for Tonali remain a major focus, De Zerbi is equally eager to strengthen Tottenham’s attack before the transfer window closes.
Spurs have maintained a long-standing interest in Manchester City winger Savinho throughout the summer, with the Brazilian now believed to be more receptive to a move to north London after seeing his opportunities limited last season. Tottenham attempted to sign the former Girona star last year, but City refused to sanction a transfer and instead tied him down to a new contract.
Now, however, the situation has changed significantly, and a move for Savinho is once again firmly on Tottenham’s agenda.
Despite that interest, Savinho is far from the only attacking player under consideration.
According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, Spurs are also preparing ambitious moves for Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush and Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. The report claims Tottenham intend to push for both players, with the aim of signing at least one of the Premier League attackers before the transfer window shuts.
Pedullà adds that Spurs could intensify their pursuit of Marmoush and Gakpo once they finalise a deal for Tonali, highlighting the ambition being shown by sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham as the club looks to bounce back after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
Marmoush has developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking threats thanks to his blistering pace, direct dribbling and intelligent movement behind opposition defences. The former Eintracht Frankfurt forward also arrived at the World Cup carrying huge expectations, with Egypt increasingly looking to him as the natural successor to Mohamed Salah as the nation’s leading attacking star.
Meanwhile, Gakpo continues to be a vital member of Liverpool’s attack despite fierce competition for places. The Netherlands international has showcased his versatility by operating both on the left wing and through the middle, finishing the 2025/26 campaign with more than 50 appearances across all competitions, nine goals and six assists.
The Dutch forward also carried impressive form into the World Cup, scoring both goals in a 2-1 warm-up victory over Uzbekistan before continuing to shine on the international stage. He later produced a brilliant display by scoring twice and providing an assist in the Netherlands’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Sweden.
Both attackers would offer De Zerbi different qualities in the final third, giving Tottenham added pace, creativity and versatility.
Any deal, however, would require a substantial financial commitment. Pedullà describes both players’ valuations as extremely high. Reports suggest Liverpool would consider offers in the region of €70 million (around £60 million) for Gakpo if an acceptable proposal arrives.
Marmoush, meanwhile, is expected to cost even more. Manchester City paid around £68 million, including add-ons, to sign the Egyptian international and would likely demand a significant profit before agreeing to let the 27-year-old leave.
