BREAKING: TOTTENHAM URGED TO SIGN COMO STRIKER ANASTASIOS DOUVIKAS AFTER STUNNING CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PERFORMANCE
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been encouraged to consider signing Como striker Anastasios Douvikas as they prepare for the January transfer window.
The Greek international uhas attracted attention following his impressive performances in Italy, with his recent Champions League display further strengthening his reputation. Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi could view the 27-year-old as a potential solution to the club’s ongoing goalscoring problems.
Tottenham have struggled to find a consistent goalscorer this season. Although Omar Marmoush arrived from Manchester City on a season-long loan with a reported £60 million obligation to buy, he is not a natural centre-forward and often performs better in wider attacking positions.
Dominic Solanke is another option available to De Zerbi, but his performances have not been consistent enough. The striker has scored only eight goals in all competitions since the beginning of last season, raising questions about his effectiveness in attack.
DOUVIKAS’ INCREDIBLE FORM ATTRACTS ATTENTION
Douvikas has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Como, establishing himself as one of the most productive forwards in European football this season.
The Greek striker has scored six goals in just four Champions League appearances. His most remarkable performance came during Como’s emphatic 9-1 victory over RC Lens, where he registered a hat-trick and provided an assist.
He also scored against Manchester United in Como’s impressive 4-1 victory.
Across all competitions, Douvikas has recorded 11 goals and one assist in 14 appearances this season.
Standing at 6ft 1in, the forward offers considerable physical strength and an aerial presence. His intelligent movement, positioning inside the penalty area and ability to finish chances make him an attractive attacking option.
However, there are questions about whether his playing style would perfectly suit De Zerbi’s tactical system.
WHY DOUVIKAS COULD BE A CONCERN FOR DE ZERBI
Despite his impressive performance against Lens, Douvikas registered only 17 touches during the encounter.
While this highlights his efficiency in front of goal, it also suggests that he is not heavily involved in general attacking build-up.
His passing numbers and defensive contributions are relatively limited. He averages 7.63 successful passes and creates approximately 0.70 chances per 90 minutes.
Another concern is his pressing ability. De Zerbi expects his attacking players to contribute defensively and apply pressure on opponents, something that may not naturally suit Douvikas’ preferred style of play.
There could also be difficulties against Premier League teams that defend deep, particularly if Tottenham struggle to create enough opportunities for him.
WHY TOTTENHAM COULD STILL BENEFIT FROM HIS SIGNING
Despite the tactical concerns, Douvikas possesses qualities that could significantly improve Tottenham’s attack.
Spurs need a striker who can make the most of goalscoring opportunities, and the Como forward has demonstrated remarkable finishing ability this season.
His reported chance-conversion rate stands at 59.9%, considerably higher than the 15% recorded by both Solanke and Marmoush.
He also offers a stronger aerial presence, having won 44.8% of his aerial duels. Solanke has recorded 27.8%, while Marmoush stands at 18.2%.
De Zerbi could consider making tactical adjustments to get the best out of the Greek striker. After all, having a forward capable of regularly finding the back of the net could be exactly what Tottenham need.
COMO COULD MAKE A JANUARY TRANSFER DIFFICULT
However, convincing Como to sell one of their most important players could prove extremely difficult.
Cesc Fabregas’ side are enjoying an impressive campaign and remain competitive near the top of Serie A. They are also performing strongly in the Champions League, currently occupying fourth position in the league-phase standings.
Allowing one of their most productive attacking players to leave halfway through the season would be a major setback.
Another significant obstacle is Douvikas’ recent contract extension, which keeps him at Como until 2031.
This makes an immediate departure particularly difficult, especially if the Italian club are unwilling to negotiate during the January transfer window.
Tottenham could also face competition from other major European clubs if they decide to pursue the forward.
For now, Douvikas appears to be an interesting potential solution to Tottenham’s attacking problems, but getting Como to agree to his departure could be a difficult task.
