Major Stoke City injury blow as Josh Tymon rushed to hospital

News and reaction as Stoke City lose at Luton Town in the Championship with their defender suffering a serious injury

Stoke City have been dealt a major blow as Josh Tymon was rushed straight from Luton Town to hospital with what is feared to be a serious knee injury.

Tymon was caught high by Cody Drameh late in the first half of what turned out to be a 1-0 defeat for Stoke at Kenilworth Road. Drameh was booked and Tymon was stretchered off to applause from all four stands.

Stoke are now waiting for an assessment and manager Alex Neil said: “The first feedback I got was that it was his knee.”

He added: “He’s been rushed to hospital. That tells you the severity of what we think it is. I’ll find out in the next few days. It was a bad tackle. There was one in the first half on Josh when he tugged the lad back.

“There were some decisions that didn’t go our way today. People can talk about it all they want but when the crowd is rallying and shouting for every ball in my opinion it certainly makes a difference because we didn’t get our fair share.

“Their fans are vocal, they’re loud. They’ve got an identity in terms of knowing what they are, playing the ball forward and making the strikers do the work and feed off bits. If it’s successful then why not? For other teams coming here, you can see why they’re high in the league because they’re effective at what they do.

“Our frustration is that we prepared for what was coming, we knew what was coming and there wasn’t really a lot in the game. That’s hard to accept.”
