Jeremy Jacquet Injury Update: Zidane Speaks as Liverpool Await Further Assessment
Liverpool are waiting for further information on Jeremy Jacquet’s fitness after the defender was ruled out of France’s Nations League meeting with Belgium because of a hamstring problem.
The 21-year-old had enjoyed an impressive international debut during the current break, earning his first two senior appearances for France and receiving strong praise from head coach Zinedine Zidane.
However, Jacquet was unable to feature in France’s 4-1 victory over Belgium on Monday after suffering what the French Football Federation described as a strain to his left hamstring.
Zidane explains Jacquet’s absence

Following France’s victory, Zidane addressed the decision to leave Jacquet out of the matchday squad.
The French manager explained that he had to carefully manage his players after they had been involved in four matches over an 11-day period. Zidane wanted to make sure that everyone in the squad received playing time without taking unnecessary risks with their fitness.
Speaking about Jacquet, Zidane indicated that the Liverpool defender had picked up a slight injury, which was the reason he was not involved against Belgium.
Instead, Manchester United defender Leny Yoro was handed his France debut and completed the full match.
Jacquet is now expected to return to Liverpool, where he will undergo further assessment to determine the seriousness of the injury and how long he could potentially be unavailable.
Liverpool facing anxious wait
The timing of the injury will be a concern for Liverpool, particularly with a major Premier League fixture against Manchester City approaching.
The Reds are scheduled to welcome City to Anfield on Sunday, giving Jacquet several days to recover and potentially return to full fitness.
Jacquet has quickly become an important member of Liverpool’s defence since joining the club. His performances alongside Virgil van Dijk have been one of the positives of the early part of the season.
His possible absence would therefore be a significant concern for Liverpool ahead of a difficult encounter with the league leaders.
The situation is made even more worrying by the fact that Liverpool are already dealing with other injury concerns. Cody Gakpo has recently picked up an injury while on international duty, meaning the potential loss of both Gakpo and Jacquet would leave the Reds without two players who have started the campaign strongly.
For now, Liverpool will have to wait for the results of Jacquet’s further medical assessment before knowing whether he will be available for Sunday’s clash with Manchester City.
The hope around Anfield will be that the hamstring issue is only minor and that the French defender can recover in time for what promises to be one of Liverpool’s biggest tests of the season.
