Where is Tyler Doyle? Here’s the timeline of events surrounding the boater’s disappearance

Tyler Doyle’s disappearance garnered national attention.

Since the boater was last seen during a duck hunting trip in January, family members have sought answers about what happened to him. They have also criticized the S.C. Department of Natural Resources’ handling of the response, saying investigators missed key search opportunities and dismissed the family’s concerns.

Here’s a snapshot of the case:

Tyler Doyle goes missing

Jan. 26 – Tyler Doyle and his friend Christian Holden go duck hunting on Tyler’s 16-foot jon boat near the Little River Inlet along the N.C.-S.C. border. The National Weather Service issues small-craft advisory for rough sea conditions.

Tyler drops off Christian near the north jetty so he can scout and put out decoys. Tyler is alone in the boat when the motor cuts out. Christian makes two calls to the Coast Guard and two calls to 911 Dispatch.

By about 4:52 p.m., Tyler and his sinking boat drift out to sea.

DNR, the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad, Horry County Fire Rescue and the Coast Guard respond to the 911 calls, which also included one from Tyler’s off-site friend Brandon Tyler and one from Tyler’s aunt Shay Boyd.

At 7:21 p.m., authorities ping Tyler’s cellphone for its location, but the phone is off.
