Following a regular season-ending 55-17 rout of Virginia, the Virginia Tech football team got a ton of retainment for the 2024 season across their entire roster. Offensively, quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten both announced that they were returning for another season in Blacksburg, but so did four wide receivers.
Stephen Gosnell, Da’Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane, and Ali Jennings all announced that they were returning to a group that also includes Tucker Holloway and youngster Ayden Greene. Add incoming freshmen Chanz Wiggins and Keylen Adams and the Hokies are going to have a deep wide receiver room this fall. You could make the case that it’s a Top 15 room in the country.
Virginia Tech has a ton of wide receiver depth in 2024
A lot of the talk has been about Drones and Tuten and a tough running duo Virginia Tech will have in the backfield this season, but on the outside, the Hokies are going to be a very tough team to defend. Arm strength is not an issue with Drones and he will have a number of options to throw to.
Felton had 667 yards receiving and eight touchdowns last season for Virginia Tech after transferring in from Norfolk State. He is a big run-after-catch guy who can separate from his defender quickly. Lane is a good complementary receiver who had 538 yards receiving last fall with six touchdowns. Gosnell is a good route runner and had 22 catches for 347 yards and three touchdowns, including one touchdown in late-season road wins over Boston College and Virginia that helped the Hokies become bowl-eligible.
Holloway’s season is up in the air after an injury in the spring and youngsters Adams and Wiggins have an opportunity to push the veterans in camp, but one receiver that could be a vital part of Virginia Tech is Jennings. The Old Dominion transfer last season suffered an injury in Week 2 against Purdue that cost him the rest of the season after an impressive season-opener against his former team. He had five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-17 win. Between ODU and Virginia Tech, Jennings has over 2,000 career receiving yards and should be a big part of the offense under Tyler Bowen.
This wide receiver room for Virginia Tech this fall is as deep and talented as they have had in a while. They have veteran playmakers who can get separation and they will open up the offense this season for Drones and Tuten. This is truly a room to be excited about this fall.
