Dave Gahan Rushed To Hospital.

Dave Gahan, lead singer of electro legends Depeche Mode, has been rushed to hospital after falling ill before the group were due to go on stage.

 

Depeche Mode began life as a synth pop combo in the early 80s. When creative lynch pin Vince Clarke walked out on the group many predicted doom for Depeche Mode, yet the band re-grouped and became one of Britain’s biggest musical exports in the decade.

 

Massive in America, the band were a huge influence on early Detroit producers such as Derrick May and Juan Atkins. Depeche Mode returned recently with their new studio album ‘Sounds Of The Universe’.

 

Keenly anticipated by fans, the album was the band’s first for four years and marked a return to their crunching, industrial influenced sound evidenced by albums such as ‘Violator’. Depeche Mode have been in demand recently, reportedly turning down Glastonbury as they felt the bill didn’t match them musically.

However the group have agreed a number of festival appearances. Depeche Mode are set to headline Chicago’s Lollapalooza, one of the biggest festivals in the United States. Founded by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, the event has sacrificed its travelling element to become one of America’s most important cultural events.

 

Kicking off in Tel Aviv, Israel the latest world tour from Depeche Mode has stuttered to a halt just a few days in. Lead singer Dave Gahan was rushed to hospital after collapsing in the dressing room shortly before a gig in Athens on May 12th.

 

The concert was cancelled as a result, with the reason for Gahan’s hospitalisation not yet being revealed.

 

“We regret today’s performance has to be canceled… David Gahan fell ill in his dressing room,” a concert organiser told the audience of about 20,000, reports Reuters.

 

It is not known when Depeche Mode will be able to continue with their world tour. The band have confirmed some British dates for much later in the year, and these are presumed to be unaffected by the latest developments.
