Swansea City are looking at winger Ruben Providence on trial, according to a report by WalesOnline.
The Swans are said to be keen on the 23-year-old as they look to make attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season. The South Wales outfit kick off the season away to Middlesbrough and are still in the market for improvements to their squad with Providence one player they like the look of.
Frenchman played in the club’s final pre-season friendly against Portuguese side Rio Ave last week, and boss Luke Williams was impressed by the attacker’s contribution.
He said, “We had the opportunity for him to train and be involved in this game, we barely had a chance to look at him properly, but now we’ve seen him in a good game and he showed some real quality which we expected as a high level player.
“Some really good physicality and good quality with the ball as well. We have a chance to spend a bit of more time with him and see what the outcome is there.”
Providence, who currently plays for TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga, has strong pedigree given the clubs he’s been at so far. The Paris-born attacker came through the ranks at hometown giants Paris Saint-Germain before a move to Roma, failing to make a senior appearance at either club.
After two unsuccessful loan spells in Europe, Providence was brought to his current club, initially temporarily, before a permanent deal was reached last summer. He has gone on to make 54 appearances in Austria, scoring ten times, which has caught Swansea’s eye.
The Championship side go into the 2024-25 season on the back of a disappointing previous campaign, where they finished 14th after flirting with the bottom end of the table. This summer has been one of change at the club with defender Nathan Wood leaving the club and a range of incomings such as striker Zan Vipotnik from crisis-hit French club Bordeaux.
Swansea had hoped to keep winger Przemyslaw Placheta after a successful spell last season, but he has joined division rivals Oxford United. The Swans are therefore in the market for a winger, and Providence looks like he fits the bill.

It’s been a busy summer at the Swansea.com Stadium, with a range of incomings, and winger seems to be the next position being looked at. Providence has an impressive CV and has done well in Austria, so a move to the EFL seems the logical next step as he looks to advance his career. If he’s successful he could help drive the Swans up the table after a poor 2023-24 campaign while also improving his own chances of a future move, which could benefit Swansea no end
