April 14, 2025 — Netflix has announced an exciting new addition to its ever-growing catalogue of music documentaries: an in-depth exploration of the lives and legacy of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, the iconic duo behind one of rock history’s most influential bands — Led Zeppelin.
Titled “Stairway to Legacy: The Story of Plant & Page,” the documentary promises a deep dive into the personal and professional journeys of the legendary vocalist and guitarist. The film will offer fans an intimate look at their creative partnership, the rise of Led Zeppelin, and their individual paths after the band’s disbandment in 1980.
The documentary is said to include never-before-seen footage from the band’s early days, rare backstage moments, and newly recorded interviews with both Plant and Page. Other appearances include music historians, former band members, and notable artists influenced by Zeppelin’s sound. Fans can also expect archival performance clips, remastered concert footage, and candid reflections on the highs and lows of fame, artistry, and legacy.
Netflix’s decision to spotlight Plant and Page comes amid a broader trend of music-focused content gaining traction on streaming platforms. Recent hits like “McCartney 3,2,1” and “The Defiant Ones” have shown strong viewer interest in behind-the-scenes stories of music legends. With the enduring mystique of Led Zeppelin and the individual charisma of both Plant and Page, this documentary is poised to become a major hit.
Sources close to the production say the documentary won’t shy away from the band’s controversies either, touching on the darker moments in Led Zeppelin’s history, including their hard-partying reputation, the tragic death of drummer John Bonham, and the legal and interpersonal struggles that followed. Still, the tone is said to be reverent and reflective, focusing on the music’s power to transcend generations.
Robert Plant, known for his soaring vocals and poetic lyrics, and Jimmy Page, the mastermind behind Zeppelin’s groundbreaking guitar work and production, have long been revered as two of rock’s most creative forces. Though their collaboration was at its peak during the Zeppelin years (1968–1980), the two reunited sporadically in the decades that followed, including a successful mid-1990s project, Page and Plant, which led to new recordings and world tours.
“Fans have always wanted to know what really went on behind the curtain,” said a Netflix spokesperson. “This documentary is not just about the music — it’s about two artists who changed the sound of rock forever, and the personal evolution they experienced along the way.”
Stairway to Legacy: The Story of Plant & Page is scheduled for a global release on Netflix in early May 2025, with an exclusive premiere event rumored to be in the works in London. For Zeppelin fans and music lovers alike, this documentary is shaping up to be a must-watch celebration of two towering figures in rock history.
