Why is Susanna Reid leaving Good Morning Britain? Presenter breaks social media silence on exit
Susanna Reid took ITV viewers by surprise this Wednesday as she announced she’d be taking a break from hosting Good Morning Britain until September. Here’s everything to know.
After announcing she’d be taking a break from Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid has spoken out about her exit on Instagram.
Early morning risers have grown accustomed to tuning into the breakfast staple with the 53-year-old at the reigns. But during this Wednesday’s (July 10, 2024) instalment of the ITV programme, Susanna revealed she’d be leaving the show. Hours after signing off, Susanna shared a behind-the-scenes snap of Good Morning Britain, alongside co-host Ed Balls, weatherwoman Laura Tobin and Charlotte Hawkins.
The stars were beaming after wrapping up as Susanna captioned her snap: “Highlighting the fact that I’ve left you in good hands.” But why is she leaving Good Morning Britain, which she has been hosting for a decade?
“I’m going to say goodbye because it’s now time for me to go off on a break, which means I say goodbye to you at home”, she told viewers as this Wednesday’s instalment of the programme drew to a close. And while she didn’t explicitly reveal her reasons for leaving the show behind, she teased her return before even leaving the studio: “You never know, I might pop up in the meantime, but otherwise I will be back in September!”
Ed Balls lamented over her departure as he pleaded: “Do you have to?” before adding: “Can’t you just stay for a bit?” to which Susanna reassured him he would be in good hands amid her absence.” Susanna signed off by saying “I’ve got to say bye” before shouting “Come on, England” ahead of the team’s upcoming Euro 2024 semi-final clash against the Netherlands tonight.
The announcement may have triggered a panic among her admirers but fans can be certain that her leave will only be temporary as Susanna is simply taking a well-deserved break to enjoy the rest of her summer. Viewers have taken to her latest Instagram post, another series of shots alongside Charlotte, Laura and Ed shared shortly after she signed off Good Morning Britain for the last time before later this year, to wish her a good holiday.
