Kate Garraway issues five-word remark after Rishi Sunak snubs GMB
Kate Garraway has a message for Rishi Sunak as the Prime Minister has yet to respond to an invitation to appear on Good Morning Britain ahead of the local elections
Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has put Rishi Sunak on the spot for dodging a visit to the show, urging him: “Pop us in your diary.” The seasoned presenter was back at the helm of the ITV breakfast programme this Friday, May 24, alongside Adil Ray and didn’t hold back her thoughts on the Prime Minister giving them the cold shoulder.
Despite Rishi Sunak’s recent media circuit, which included stops at BBC Breakfast and even Loose Women, he has yet to take up Good Morning Britain’s offer, leaving Kate keen to turn the tide, especially since Sir Keir Starmer, who’s eyeing the keys to No. 10, is set to face her questions this Friday.
Adil Ray initiated the discussion about Keir Starmer’s scheduled appearance, remarking: “Unlike Mr Sunak, of course, who refused to come on the show yesterday. I’m baffled by that.” Kate, his co-presenter, countered: “I don’t know if he refused, he’s just very busy but we would like to think we would be his priority.”
Facing the camera and the viewers at home, she continued: “And we’d like to think that you would be his priority, quite frankly, because it’s you that he’s got to convince to vote for him.” She then delivered a direct invitation to Rishi Sunak on air: “We’re available for you Mr Sunak. Pop us in your diary!”
Kate Garraway’s plea comes after another moment on the show where Susanna Reid took a sharp jab at Rishi Sunak on Thursday, May 23. During a conversation with Guto Harri and Lord Ed Vaizey, the presenter accused the Tory leader of “letting voters down” by not appearing on Good Morning Britain.
The chat kicked off when a clip of Rishi Sunak’s speech outside No. 10 Downing Street, with Labour’s anthem Things Can Only Get Better playing faintly in the background, was aired in the studio.
