This role, which she will hold until her retirement, reflects Sharp’s enduring dedication to the institution and its athletic programs.
A Storied Legacy at Texas Tech
Marsha Sharp’s association with Texas Tech spans over four decades, during which she has been instrumental in shaping the university’s women’s basketball program. Beginning as an assistant coach in 1981, Sharp ascended to the role of head coach in 1982, a position she held until her retirement in 2006. Over these 24 years, she amassed a career record of 572-189, leading the Lady Raiders to numerous accolades, including:
- National Championship: Guiding the team to the NCAA title in 1993 with a 31-3 record, marking the first national team title in the university’s history.
- NCAA Tournament Appearances: Securing 18 consecutive NCAA tournament berths, with four Elite Eight and 11 Sweet 16 appearances.
