Susanna Reid fights tears as she announces death of Strictly co-star
The Good Morning Britain host danced with Robin Windsor in 2011.
Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid has shared her memories of Strictly pro Robin Windsor, who sadly passed away at age 44.
Announcing the news of Windsor’s death, Reid, who danced with him on a 2011 Strictly special to benefit Children in Need, got emotional and asked her co-host Ed Balls to continue.
Later on, Reid, who also took part in Strictly in 2013 when Windsor was partnered with Emmerdale‘s Lisa Riley, remembered Windsor’s enthusiasm and presence.
“Robin was larger than life,” Reid said, adding: “I fell in love with him and fell in love with dancing when I danced with him back then.”
“He was an absolutely remarkable dancer, incredibly strong and so creative. He was so enthusiastic about dancing,” she continued. “I just adored him. He was the most incredible personality.”
Reid then said the dancer “embodied” the magic of Strictly with his “infectious sparkle” and gave her confidence.
“To have someone with the strength and presence of Robin to dance with,” she said. “You felt like you were dancing with someone who just embodied the magic of Strictly.
“I honestly fell in love with Robin. I fell in love with Strictly Come Dancing. He ignited that passion, as he would have done with every single one of his celebrity partners, all of whom will be feeling devastated, as will his Strictly family.”
Windsor danced on the BBC show between 2010 and 2013, sharing the stage with celebrity partners including EastEnders stars Patsy Kensit and Anita Dobson.
Windsor’s death was first announced in the early hours of February 20 via a statement on the Facebook page of Burn the Floor, the dance company he co-founded.
“The Burn the Floor family has lost one of its founding members, Robin ‘Bobby’ Windsor – who has tragically passed away,” the tribute read.
“A BTF journeyman he danced with us for twenty years – including Broadway, The West End and all our crazy adventures around the world.
“He leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled, yet our wonderful memories will stay forever.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
