Dave Murray: a year in review 2023 – this should inspire a few people
January – moved on from my wonderful time at Grantify UK to lend my experience to the next business in need of hypergrowth. Took the month to travel to Iceland and start charity work with Box Up Crime. Big shout out to Dr Stephen Addison (BEM) – who I hope we can work very closely with in 2024.
February – joined 2 businesses simultaneously at Woodbois Limited and Silver Linings Wellbeing and spent the next 4 months enjoying an exciting dual role with some great people. Thank you so much Chrissy S. and Paul Dolan for such incredible experiences. Thanks also to Jake Slocombe, Ous DAGUI, Harriet Hills and Ami Anselle.
June – decided to go freelance and had many offers coming in. The first was ToolTime which I successfully test-ran and brought to the UK market now ranked in the top 100 tech startups in the UK! I also started working again with my good friend and former boss of Grantify with Luma West where we have built an amazing team of first aid trainers, salespeople and as of January 2024 we are ready to bring this product properly to market! Big shout out to Marius Stäcker, Marcel Mansfeld, Tra My Nguyen, Dan Rowe, Lewis Sweenie 🚀, Mat Westergreen-Thorne, Mustafa Hamza, Terry Parkerpayne and Goda A..
September – I returned triumphantly to help Hitchbird for a few early hours each morning and reunited with my old manager Hoi Cheung.
During the year, I found time for trips to Chamonix, Latvia, Berlin, Portugal, Iceland and now off to the Cotswolds and Cornwall again for Christmas and New year.
I started hyper networking with the likes of Network My Club, Silvatree UK, Wonderful World of Wellbeing, Sales Confidence, and attending Sales Innovation Expo, Restaurant Expo and many more. All of which introduced me to some amazing people along the way: shoutouts to some notable characters in Samantha Pond, Seamus O’Neill, Carlton Alfred, Benjamin James, Jack Beck, Richard Ranson – Social Entrepreneur, Eleni Sarantinou and James Ski.
And finally, the year couldn’t have been completed without those close in my life. James M., Rory Connolly, Ben Leek, Chris Radford, Will Phung, and all the team at The Lansdowne Club, Neal Skinner, as this is the year I started Fencing (and still loving it).
I lost my former business partner and we put on a virtual funeral for the master that was Craig Hollerin. He will always be an inspiration to me. So many good memories and this year brought them all flooding back. The one and only Roller Roller.
The moral of this story is that it wasn’t a straight line 2023. I went from the top of my career to starting again. It’s not easy and it took a huge toll on me to pick myself back up. We can all brush ourselves off and start again. 2024 is going to be a fascinating year!
