Liverpool remain determined to sign 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande, who has been on the club’s radar for several months. The Reds see the talented Ivorian as the ideal player to strengthen their attacking options with the pace and one-on-one ability they felt was missing last season.
Currently representing Côte d’Ivoire at the FIFA Club World Cup, Diomande is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2030 after joining the Bundesliga club from Leganés for €20 million last summer. That long-term deal has given Leipzig complete control over his future.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool recently submitted an official bid worth €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons, but Leipzig rejected the proposal without hesitation. The German club reportedly values the winger significantly higher and has no intention of selling for €100 million.
Leipzig’s priority is to keep Diomande for at least another season. Club officials are said to be offering him an improved contract, a substantial salary increase, and a release clause that would allow him to choose his next destination in the summer of 2027.
However, Romano reports that the player is seriously considering leaving this summer. Despite Leipzig’s hopes of convincing him to stay and play UEFA Champions League football, Diomande is understood to be attracted by the prospect of a new challenge, with Liverpool leading the race for his signature.
Sources close to the negotiations believe Liverpool may need to raise their offer to around €120 million before Leipzig will consider doing business. The Bundesliga side are also confident Diomande’s impressive performances at the Club World Cup could increase his market value even further.
Liverpool are not alone in the pursuit. Paris Saint-Germain continue to monitor the situation, while other elite European clubs could enter the race if Diomande continues to impress, making the battle for one of Europe’s brightest young talents even more intense.
