ESPN REPORT: Kirby Smart just announce a shocking news on a talented star

Now that Georgia has its 2025 quarterback commit, all eyes turn to wide receiver.

The Bulldogs already have two pass-catchers in the class for Ryan Montgomery, both via the tight end position. Elyiss Williams and Ethan Barbour both offer their passing-game skill set for the new Georgia quarterback pledge. But the Bulldogs will also hope to build a potentially larger-than-normal wide receiver class.

Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley already has a strong list of options in place as we approach the summer silly season for college football recruiting.

Georgia’s secondary looked considerably different on Saturday compared to how it lined up last fall thanks to three key departures and safety Malaki Starks working his way back from shoulder surgery. The Bulldogs showed signs of progress with some new faces, but Kirby Smart recognizes that there’s still more work to do.

Georgia’s defensive backs made plenty of plays during a G-Day game that featured plenty of passing. Whether it was first-team defenders like Dan Jackson and Daylen Everette making their presence felt or newcomers showing that they belong, the secondary was teeming with Bulldogs who seem set to contribute later this year.

G-Day was the culmination of the spring for the Bulldogs, and Smart recognizes there’s plenty of room for improvement among his defensive backs.

“We’ve got a long way to go. We lost three really good football players there,” Smart said. “We’re thin. David Daniel wasn’t able to go today, Malaki was out, Justyn Rhett was out, Demello [Jones] was dealing with a little bit of a hamstring. We got better in the secondary, but we’re not where we need to be in terms of being able to make plays on the ball down the field and be able to affect the quarterback.”

Everette maintained a starting role at cornerback like he did throughout 2023, and he handled those duties with Julian Humphrey lined up at the other corner spot. Everette was by no means perfect against the Red team, but he delivered 5 tackles and was part of a defense that intercepted Carson Beck twice and held him to a 54.3 completion percentage.
