CJ Wallace, who has a sizable reputation but limited experience, pledges to the UW.

Betting on the future with an ode to the past, the University of Washington football program received a 2026 commitment on Monday from place-kicker CJ Wallace of St. John Bosco High School, the special-teams recruit posted on social media.

This 5-foot-11, 155-pound sophomore was part of a large contingent of high school players who visited the UW over the weekend after he initially received an offer from the Huskies in late January, presumably with a scholarship involved.

Demonstrating how it works with kickers these days, Wallace spent last season at Bosco in Bellflower, California, kicking for the junior varsity team while serving as a back-up for the varsity.

For the 11-2 Braves varsity, Wallace appeared in six games and converted 6 of 6 extra-point kicks, without attempting a field goal, while playing behind senior Marcus Lee, who appears headed for the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a teammate of Bosco linebacker Khmori House, who is a Husky freshman on scholarship and currently involved in spring practice.

On the JV level, Wallace kicked a game-winning field goal to beat Mater Dei 30-27 with three minutes remaining, though the distance wasn’t readily available.

Rather than be graded on his limited high school experience, Wallace has built his reputation while competing in Chris Sailer kicking camps and various national competitions. He purportedly has 50-yard-plus range on his field goals, 60 on his kickoffs, and is an aspiring punter.

Wallace, who’s from Manhattan Beach, similarly is a baseball and softball player, an outfielder,.

Should he end up at the UW as planned, he’ll become the second Wallace named CJ or C.J. to play in Montlake.

Cecil James “C.J.” Wallace from Sacramento, California, was an All-Pac-10 safety for the Huskies as a senior in 2006, capping a four-year career. He later played an NFL season for the Seattle Seahawks and in the UFL.
