Jon Carin, the renowned keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist who played a pivotal role in Pink Floyd’s later years and Roger Waters’ solo projects, has announced his retirement from music. After more than four decades of contributing to some of the most iconic and influential albums and tours in rock history, Carin has decided to step away from the stage and studio, marking the end of an extraordinary career.
Carin made the announcement via a heartfelt social media post, expressing gratitude to his fans, collaborators, and the many musicians he worked with over the years. “It’s been an incredible journey, one that I could never have imagined when I first started out,” Carin wrote. “The music we made and the experiences we shared have meant the world to me, but I feel that now is the right time to close this chapter of my life and move on to new adventures. Jon Carin’s career began in the early 1980s, but it was his work with Pink Floyd that catapulted him into the spotlight. He joined the band for their *A Momentary Lapse of Reason* tour in 1987, following Roger Waters’ departure from the group, and became a key part of their live performances. His keyboard work and vocal contributions were crucial to Pink Floyd’s sound during this era, and he continued to tour with the band throughout the late ’80s and ’90s, including their legendary *Division Bell* tour in 1994.
In addition to his work with Pink Floyd, Carin became a long-time collaborator with Roger Waters, joining him on his solo tours and contributing to albums like *Amused to Death* and *Is This the Life We Really Want?*. His ability to seamlessly blend into both the Waters and Gilmour camps of Pink Floyd made him a unique figure in the band’s complicated history, earning him the respect and admiration of both musicians and fans alike.
