The Chicago Bulls’ season came to another disappointing end.
They’ve been stuck in a mediocrity spiral since Derrick Rose suffered that career-altering injury, being either a borderline playoff team or not making the playoffs at all.
Unfortunately for the fans, it seems like that’s not going to change any time soon, as the front office refuses to rebuild, but they also don’t want to pay the luxury tax to get some actual stars.
That’s going to be the case again next season.
According to a report by Bulls insider K.C. Johnson, the team has offered DeMar DeRozan a two-year deal that would be worth $40 million per season (via NBA Central).
DeRozan has been the lone bright spot for this organization for years now, but he’s 34 years old already and doesn’t have much of a history of postseason success.
The Bulls are stuck with Zach LaVine, who’s been injury-prone and vastly overpaid, and it’s been two years since Lonzo Ball suited up.
Nikola Vucevic is not much of a defender and doesn’t hold that much trade value, either, and Alex Caruso seems to be their only legitimate trade chip.
It’s crazy to do the same things over and over and expect different results, yet it seems like the Bulls front office hasn’t gotten the memo.
This is one of the largest sports markets in the league and a franchise that used to be the standard for greatness and competitiveness.
Now, that’s all a part of the past, and Michael Jordan’s aura might be the only thing putting fans in the seats.
