Andoni Iraola is reportedly preparing to give one Liverpool youngster a significantly bigger role next season. After a difficult 2025/26 campaign for the Reds, Rio Ngumoha emerged as one of the brightest positives, progressing from a Premier League debut in August to starting Liverpool’s final three matches of the season.
As Liverpool’s attacking struggles continued throughout the campaign, calls grew louder for the 17-year-old to receive more opportunities. His impressive displays earned him a first England call-up ahead of the World Cup, and he marked his debut against New Zealand with a standout performance that attracted widespread praise.
According to BBC Sport journalist Adam Patel, the highly-rated teenager is expected to play a much more prominent role under Iraola during the 2026/27 season.
Although Ngumoha made 29 appearances and accumulated 952 minutes last term, only 10 of those outings came as starts, with many of his opportunities arriving in cup competitions or brief substitute appearances.
The arrival of Victor Munoz has increased competition on the left flank, though the Spaniard could also be deployed on the right if Liverpool fail to secure a move for Yan Diomande.
Regardless, with Liverpool facing a packed schedule of at least 48 matches next season, Iraola is expected to rely heavily on his squad depth. That should open the door for Ngumoha to feature far more regularly, allowing the exciting young winger to continue showcasing his immense potential on the biggest stage.
