The Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps brought much of the same for Max Verstappen and Red Bull last weekend as the Dutchman continued his frightening dominance of the sport.

 

His biggest battle of the weekend came against his own engineer who had issues with the Dutchman in qualifying and during the final stint of the race.

Due to a grid penalty after a gearbox change, Verstappen actually started Sunday’s race in P6.

 

Charles Leclerc was on pole and Checo Perez was in P2. The second Red Bull driver soon cleared Leclerc and took the lead, but it was not long before Verstappen roared up behind him and took the first place for himself.

 

He then ended the race almost a pit stop ahead of his Mexican teammate, despite them both driving the same car.

 

Lewis Hamilton’s jab at Perez

Lewis Hamilton has been the only rival Verstappen has met in the fight to win a world championship.

 

It was in 2021, so more than a year and a half of Dutch dominance has passed, but it seems that the Englishman still has an open wound.

 

“At the moment, it’s impossible to beat the Red Bull unless they don’t finish,” Hamilton said.

 

“They’re eight-tenths to one second faster per lap than everybody else.

 

“It is what it is. There’s nothing I can do about it.

 

“Do I want to be as fast as them? Of course. Would I like to have a car that’s as fast as them? Of course.

 

 

“If I was in Sergio’s car… Max would not be having the same time he’s having now.”

 

Perez addresses the gap to Verstappen

Talking about his own race to Sky Sports F1, Perez admitted that the gap was large.

 

“Especially on that second stint he pulled away, made a good gap, and then I went off into Turn 11 and the gap got bigger,” he said.
