Alex Morgan suffers Olympic scare after rolling her ankle in the San Diego Wave’s NWSL clash with Orlando Pride raising questions about her status for upcoming Paris Games
USWNT star Alex Morgan has suffered an injury scare just three months before the 2024 Paris Olympics Games, as her availability for the Star and Stripes this summer has now plunged into doubt.
The 34-year-old striker, who co-captained the US along with Carli Llyod and Megan Rapinoe from 2018 to 2020, suffered an ankle injury on Friday night with 10 minutes to go in the San Diego Wave’s 1-0 loss to the Orlando Pride.
She collided with Pride defender Emily Sams after her shot was blocked from up close in the 82nd minute.
Morgan limped off in pain after getting back on her feet and was given treatment on the team’s bench after making her way off the field.
The extent of her ankle injury has not yet been revealed but fellow Wave teammate Abby Dahlkemper provided an update on Morgan’s status ahead of San Diego’s next game against Bay FC next Saturday, April 27th.
