Kate Garraway should find comfort knowing Derek is at peace now, says Peter Andre

Kate Garraway has received warm wishes from Peter Andre, who has tried to send comfort to her following husband Derek Draper’s tragic death.

Kate Garraway has been comforted by close friend Peter Andre in the aftermath of her Covid-suffering husband Derek Draper’s death. The pair had previously enjoyed “backstage chats” when Derek was critically ill – and now Peter has come forward to offer comforting words again.

In his latest column, Peter told OK! readers that his “heart goes out to” Kate and her family as she is a “lovely person”. “As I said when I spoke about it on GB News, Derek was one of the real stories of Covid and we saw the impact the disease could have on someone,” he lamented.

“It’s such a sad time, but I hope Kate is able to find comfort knowing that he is at peace now and no longer in pain.” Marvelling at the strength that she found through tough times, he added: “Kate wasn’t only a carer to Derek, but also had to adopt the role of both mum and dad to her kids, Darcey and Billy [at the same time]. Sending love to them all.”

Peter had previously described his pal in 2022 as “one of the kindest and loveliest people you will ever come across”. He vented at the time: “It still frustrates me so much when I think about all the people who said Covid wasn’t real when you see what has happened to Derek.”

The friendship between the pair has extended back a long time, with the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star giving Kate advice in preparation for when she herself entered the jungle in 2019. Peter had been there 15 years earlier, in 2004, which is where he met his ex-wife Katie Price.

The pair would go on to have two children together.

Meanwhile, Kate’s Good Morning Britain co-star Ben Shephard has also spoken out about how the grief-stricken star is feeling as she struggles to adjust to Derek’s death.

Having spoken to her recently on the phone, he revealed that she’d spoken of being “in a strange bubble of her own numbness of grief”.

He added in reference to her 17-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son: “Her, Billy and Darcey are hunkering down together.”
