Barcelona submit bid for Everton-linked star Jaden Philogene, developments expected next week
Everton are still in the race to sign Hull City winger Jaden Philogene this summer despite Barcelona submitting an official offer, according to Harry Watkinson.
Writing on his personal X account (30 June), the TEAMtalk journalist reports that the Toffees have the 22-year-old winger high on their shortlist for a new attacker this summer.
Barcelona are said to have tabled a loan bid with an obligation to buy [Florian Plettenberg, 30 June], but “developments are expected next week” with Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell still keen to add to the squad.
Everton want to freshen up Sean Dyche’s attacking options
It’s no surprise to anyone who watched the Blues in the 2023/24 season that new attackers are seemingly the club’s priority this summer.
The Toffees managed to score just 40 goals in 38 Premier League games, a tally only better than Luton Town and Burnley who were both relegated back to the Championship.
Jack Harrison has returned on loan for a second season, but with Arnaut Danjuma leaving the club need to add to their firepower and Philogene would certainly do that after showing he is ready to step up from the second tier.
Iliman Ndiaye is set to join in a £20million deal from Marseille, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin could still move on and with Beto’s future up in the air too it’s no surprise that attackers continue to be linked.
Yankuba Minteh was a target but rejected the Toffees [Plettenberg, 29 June] to head to Brighton instead, and with Barcelona making their move for Philogene Thelwell and Dyche have to move quickly to not miss out on another target.
