NC high school pays tribute to AC/DC with rocking rendition of ‘Thunderstruck’

Smithfield-Selma High School’s Spartan Thunder Drumline is throwing it back once more.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WBTV) – A North Carolina school is gaining attention after its drumline put together a number throwing it back to an AC/DC classic.

Students at Smithfield-Selma High School in Johnston County, southeast of Raleigh, put together a throwback production for the second year in a row, producing another stellar performance video.

This time, the Spartan Thunder Drumline rocked out to the legendary band’s iconic song, “Thunderstruck.”

Last year, the students did their own rendition of Michael Jackson’s 1987 hit “Bad.” That video garnered more than 23,000 views on YouTube.

Viewers of both performances shared their thoughts in the comments, with some calling the videos “outstanding,” “wonderful,” “unreal,” and “so tuff.” One person said even said watching the videos makes them want to go to band competitions.

The band is no stranger to themes over the years; they have done everything from Star Wars to James Brown.

According to its website, the Spartan Thunder Drumline was founded in 2015 by Justin Holmes, and performs at the school’s basketball games and other school events, as well as in the community.
