Yankee Stadium looks like Mars as wildfire smoke smothers NYC
In a last-minute location change, the Yankees and White Sox were set to play on Mars.
Clouds of smoke that wafted south from Canadian wildfires put The Bronx in a literal haze by Wednesday afternoon.
In a scene that resembled “Blade Runner,” the sky was blocked and the air heavy, the smell of smoke strong.
There was an orange tint to the atmosphere and the Air Quality Index was all the way up to 191, which registers as “unhealthy.”
The game between the Yankees and White Sox was postponed shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
It is MLB, with consultation from the Players Association — and not the Yankees — that has the authority to postpone or reschedule games due to air quality.
There was a meeting at 4 p.m. involving MLB, the Yankees and all teams affected by the air-quality concerns
