Kate Garraway makes surprising career change that’s certain to shock TV viewers

Kate Garraway is set to surprise her fans in a new ITV drama, with the presenter making a cameo in upcoming series Douglas is Cancelled alongside Hugh Bonneville

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway is set to surprise fans by pursuing a completely different career path, with the presenter making her drama debut in ITV’s Douglas is Cancelled.

Written by Sherlock’s Steven Moffat, the ITV comedy-drama stars Hugh Bonneville as Douglas – a respected newsreader who’s career hangs in the balance after he’s overheard making a sexist joke at a wedding. He stars opposite Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan, who plays Douglas’ younger co-presenter Madeline.

The four-part series also sees the likes of Ben Miles, Alex Kingston, Nick Mohammed and Simon Russell Beale take on roles as Douglas’ social media scandal plays out on screen. However, broadcaster Kate Garraway also joins that star-studded list – with the Good Morning Britain host making a cameo as herself in the series.

Speaking about the drama ahead of its June release, star Hugh said that his character lulls the audience into a “false sense of comedic security”. He added: “You are drawn down a certain path and then your expectations are overturned.

“Douglas is a likeable character but he has smugness from the comfort zone he feels he’s in relatively near the top of the media tree,” he said. “Little does he know that in his slipstream, his protégé Madeline is far smarter and far more on the case than he is.”
