As we kick off the 2025 season for the Clemson Tigers, the depth chart has some intriguing battles and decisions, particularly at quarterback and along the offensive line.
Quarterback Battle: Cade Klubnik vs. Bryant Wesco
At the top of the conversation is the highly anticipated quarterback competition between Cade Klubnik and Bryant Wesco. Klubnik, a sophomore, took over as the starter during the 2024 season and showed flashes of brilliance. His strong arm, mobility, and ability to extend plays with his legs made him a promising talent, but he also had moments of inconsistency. His development in the offseason has made this a much tighter race than initially expected.

Bryant Wesco, on the other hand, is a highly touted freshman with tremendous potential. Wesco is known for his precision passing and ability to read defenses quickly, which makes him a natural fit for the up-tempo, high-powered offense that Clemson is known for. Although he’s entering his first season at the college level, his talent has made coaches question whether he’s ready to take the reins early.
Ultimately, it seems likely that Klubnik will retain the starting job to start the season, given his experience and leadership from last year. However, Wesco could push for playing time, and this competition might continue well into the season, with the possibility of both quarterbacks seeing significant action, especially if the Tigers aim to keep their offense dynamic and unpredictable.
Offensive Line Shake-Up
An equally important storyline involves the offensive line, which has seen a shift in personnel. Clemson’s offensive line struggled with consistency in 2024, and head coach Dabo Swinney has made it clear that changes were necessary to improve the unit. The Tigers are expected to move some players around to find the best combination of blockers to protect their quarterback and establish a solid running game.
One of the most interesting decisions revolves around the battle at left tackle, where a couple of young, talented players are vying for the spot. This position has long been a staple for Clemson’s success, so finding a reliable protector for the quarterback is key to the offense’s growth. If the line can come together early, it could provide a solid foundation for whichever quarterback emerges as the starter.
With a mix of veterans and emerging talent, the offensive line’s performance will be one of the most crucial elements for the Tigers’ success in 2025, alongside the QB battle.
