Ron Zook, the former head coach of the Florida Gators and Illinois Fighting Illini, has recently addressed his retirement plans, revealing that he could still coach for another decade. At 66, Zook remains deeply passionate about football and is eager to continue contributing to the sport.
After his tenure at Illinois ended in 2011, Zook took a brief hiatus from coaching, during which he worked as a business development officer at Gateway Bank in Ocala, Florida. However, his love for the game led him back to coaching, starting with a role as a special teams assistant for the Green Bay Packers in 2014. He later served as the Packers’ special teams coordinator from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, Zook joined the Salt Lake Stallions of the Alliance of American Football as a special teams coordinator and secondary coach.
In 2020, Zook returned to college football as a senior analyst for the Maryland Terrapins, working with the defense and special teams. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the game have been invaluable in this capacity.
Zook’s commitment to coaching is evident in his recent statements. He expressed his desire to continue coaching for as long as possible, emphasizing his dedication to the sport and the relationships he has built over the years.
